It is vitally important that the manufacturers guidelines are followed when tanking a wet area. There are many systems available but we have found the following two different procedures to be the best.

The first is a bitumen rubber membrane called Tile-safe that is laid directly onto a primed floor area and across the joints in the substrate. This gives an impenetrable waterproof seal and when used in conjunction with Ardex WPC waterproof protection rubber paint for the walls gives a perfect solution for most shower areas.

Our second solution is to cover the walls and floors with waterproof Marmox board (fitting instructions outlined in the following section). The joints between the boards are sealed with acrylic silicon and an alkali jointing tape with Ardex WPC rubber waterproof paint. Not only does this give a perfect waterproofed room but it gives a very stable substrate for tiling on to.
